Arunachal Pradesh Police Constable Killed in Rare Tiger Attack While Riding Motorcycle
Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh:
In a tragic and highly unusual incident, a police constable lost his life after being attacked by a tiger while riding his motorcycle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Head Constable Chikseng Manpung, a radio operator with the Arunachal Pradesh Police. He was returning on his motorcycle from Anini in Dibang Valley when the fatal attack took place along a forested stretch of road.
According to officials, the incident has sent shockwaves across the region, as fatal tiger attacks on humans are extremely rare in the state. Soon after the incident was reported, teams from the local police and the forest department rushed to the site to assess the situation and secure the area.
Manish Saurya, Superintendent of Police (SP), Lower Dibang Valley, said authorities have taken immediate preventive steps in coordination with the forest department. As a safety measure, two-wheelers have been temporarily banned from using the affected route, especially near the Mayudia region.
The Mayudia area, known for its scenic beauty and winter snowfall, has recently witnessed multiple tiger sightings, raising serious safety concerns for commuters and tourists.
Meanwhile, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Roing, Mito Rumi, confirmed that a tigress along with her three sub-adult cubs has been frequently sighted on or near the roadway over the past few days, particularly during nighttime hours.
Forest officials have initiated efforts to manage the situation and prevent further human-wildlife conflict. Specialist teams equipped with tranquilising and tracking equipment are being mobilised from the state capital Itanagar, as well as from other tiger reserves across Arunachal Pradesh.
Authorities have urged residents and travellers to strictly follow advisories and avoid movement through forest routes until the situation is brought under control.
