Bareilly Schools Closed for Three Days as Dense Fog and Cold Intensify

Bareilly: Authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district have ordered the closure of schools up to Class 8 for three days due to severe cold conditions and persistent dense fog affecting the region.

All government, aided, and private schools for Classes 1 to 8 will remain shut from December 18 to December 20, following directions issued by District Magistrate Avinash Singh. The decision was implemented to ensure student safety as weather conditions continue to disrupt daily life.

Basic Shiksha Adhikari Dr Vinita stated that strict action will be taken against institutions that fail to comply with the order. However, schools with examinations already scheduled may proceed according to their existing timetable.

The district and nearby areas have been enveloped in thick fog, with little to no sunlight and strong cold winds worsening the chill. Low visibility during morning hours has slowed traffic and raised safety concerns.

On Tuesday, Bareilly recorded its coldest day in a decade, with the maximum temperature dropping to 16.3°C. Meteorological officials have issued an orange alert for dense fog over the next three days, warning that cold winds from the hills could further worsen conditions.

Residents have been advised to limit unnecessary travel and take extra precautions, especially for children and elderly people, as relief from the cold spell is unlikely in the immediate future.
