PM Modi Expresses Confidence in BJP’s Prospects in Kerala Assembly Elections
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will receive an opportunity from voters in Kerala in the upcoming Assembly elections, citing the party’s improved performance in recent local body polls as a sign of growing public trust.
Speaking at the BJP national headquarters in New Delhi, the Prime Minister highlighted the party’s performance in municipal elections across Maharashtra and Kerala. He described the results in Maharashtra as historic, stating that the BJP has emerged as the leading political force in local governance in the state.
According to PM Modi, the BJP and its allies secured the support of voters in 25 out of 29 major cities in Maharashtra, with nearly half of all elected councillors belonging to the party. He said these outcomes reflect increasing confidence in the BJP’s governance model.
BJP Gains Ground in Kerala Local Bodies
Referring to Kerala, the Prime Minister noted that the BJP has significantly expanded its presence in local self-government institutions, now having close to 100 councillors across the state. He highlighted the party’s mayoral victory in Thiruvananthapuram, calling it a landmark moment as power changed hands after 45 years.
“The people of Kerala have shown trust in the BJP at the local level, and I firmly believe they will also give the party a chance in the upcoming Assembly elections,” PM Modi said.
BJP’s Governance Model Highlighted
Addressing party workers, the Prime Minister attributed the BJP’s electoral gains to its focus on stability, development, and service-oriented governance. He contrasted the BJP’s approach with what he described as earlier governance models driven by dynastic politics, ideological rigidity, or unstable coalitions.
He emphasised that public service remains the core principle of the BJP, stating that political power is viewed as a responsibility rather than a privilege within the party.
Welfare Initiatives and Regional Development
PM Modi also highlighted several central government welfare programmes, particularly initiatives aimed at improving rural infrastructure and women’s empowerment. He referred to large-scale tap water connections, LPG access for households, and income-generation programmes for rural women as examples of policies driven by sensitivity to public needs.
He further spoke about the government’s focus on the Northeast, stating that the region, which he said was previously neglected, has now been integrated more closely with national development efforts.
Remarks on Security and Political Accountability
The Prime Minister also addressed concerns related to illegal infiltration, calling it a serious challenge to national security and social justice. He stressed the need for firm action and criticised political forces that, according to him, shield such issues for electoral considerations.
Leadership Transition in BJP
The address coincided with the formal assumption of office by Nitin Nabin as the new National President of the BJP. The ceremony was attended by senior party leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, outgoing president JP Nadda, and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.
Nitin Nabin, a senior leader from Bihar and a five-time MLA, was elected after the party completed its internal organisational election process. He received unanimous support, with multiple nomination proposals endorsed by top BJP leadership.
