PM Modi to Visit Punjab on February 1, Adampur Airport to Be Renamed After Guru Ravidas Ji

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on February 1, where he is scheduled to rename Adampur Airport in honour of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji and inaugurate key aviation infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening regional connectivity.

According to official information, the Prime Minister will arrive at Adampur Airport around 3:45 pm and formally unveil its new name — Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur — on the occasion of the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji. The move has been described as a tribute to the revered saint’s teachings of equality, compassion and human dignity.

Halwara Airport Terminal to Be Inaugurated

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the new Terminal Building at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana district. The facility is expected to significantly improve air connectivity for Ludhiana and surrounding industrial and agricultural regions, providing a major boost to trade, investment and passenger movement in Punjab.

Halwara Airport holds strategic importance as it also houses an Indian Air Force station. Unlike the earlier Ludhiana airport, which had operational limitations due to a shorter runway, Halwara features a longer runway capable of handling larger aircraft, including A320-type planes.

Focus on Sustainable and Green Infrastructure

The newly constructed terminal at Halwara Airport has been designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability. It incorporates energy-efficient systems such as LED lighting, insulated roofing, rainwater harvesting mechanisms, sewage and water treatment plants, and the reuse of treated water for landscaping purposes.

Architecturally, the terminal reflects Punjab’s cultural heritage, offering passengers a modern yet regionally inspired travel experience.

Political and Social Significance

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Punjab have welcomed the Prime Minister’s visit, calling the renaming of Adampur Airport a meaningful gesture that reflects respect for Sant Guru Ravidas Ji and the sentiments of the people of Punjab.

Party leaders have also highlighted that the visit coincides with a significant period, as the Union Budget is set to be presented soon, underlining the importance of faith, inclusivity and infrastructure development in national policy-making.

Prime Minister Modi is also expected to visit the Dera of Guru Ravidas Ji during his trip and pay his respects, further underlining the cultural and spiritual significance of the visit.

Strengthening Punjab’s Aviation Landscape

With the inauguration of modern airport infrastructure and enhanced air connectivity, Punjab is poised to strengthen its position as a key economic and logistics hub in North India. The developments are expected to support regional growth, improve passenger convenience, and create new opportunities for industry and tourism.
